Early Life and Education
Raised in Ikole Ekiti, in Ekiti State, Pastor Paul Akindotun Adewumi arrived in the world on January 1, 1943. His parents, the late Reverend Joel Ashake Adewumi and the late Madam Elizabeth Boyede Adewumi, nurtured his spiritual upbringing from the day of his birth. His early education commenced at Saint Paul Elementary School, Ikole Ekiti (1949-1950), where he earned a Standard 4 Certificate. He furthered his scholarly pursuit at Saint Peter School, Ikole Ekiti (1950-1956), acquiring his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC).
Education and Skill Development
Embracing broader learning, Adewumi joined Duaya Jubilee Tech Victory College Ikare Akoko (1957-1959), securing a General Certificate (GC). His quest for technical knowledge led him to the School of Woodwork and Technology Ifeloju, Akoko North Ilepa Ikare (1960-1963), where he obtained a National Technical Certificate (NTC). His skillset further evolved as he worked at Royal Furniture & Co Irugbe, Owo (1963-1965) as Managing Director. Throughout his career, he honed numerous skills such as carpentry, driving, music, event planning, farming, and most importantly, a set of spiritual gifts including wisdom, knowledge, faith, discernment, and healing.
Marriage and Family
On August 28, 1968, Pastor Adewumi wedded Deaconess Josphine Morolake Adewumi in a ceremony conducted by the Late Pastor J.F Olatonade. The couple began their lifelong journey together, welcomed their children and were later blessed with grandchildren.
Ministerial Journey
The call to service manifested early on in Adewumi’s life. His ministerial journey took flight with his baptism in 1965, followed by his ordination as a Deacon in 1966. He subsequently intensified his religious education at LATS, Ayegbaju Ilesa, Osun State (1966-1968), receiving a Diploma Certificate. An illuminating career followed, punctuated by consistent growth and respect from his peers. Adewumi’s ministerial duties and responsibilities continued to expand, resulting in his ordination as a Pastor in 1973, appointments as a District Apostle in 1986, and as a Superintendent in 1996. He also served as the Area Superintendent for Gbogan, Warri, Kano, Ilorin, Ogbomosho, Ifo, Ojo Alaba, and Iwalewa Areas from 1996 to 2023. Throughout his ministerial career, he planted numerous churches and contributed significantly to their growth.
Legacy and Contributions
Pastor Paul Akindotun Adewumi leaves behind a substantial spiritual legacy. He was widely regarded for his leadership skills, capability and capacity, as well as for his consistency in professing sound doctrines. He displayed solid wisdom in his teachings, fervently led people to Christ and conducted numerous pre and post-marital counseling sessions. He strongly advocated and taught about love, peace, holiness, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Furthermore, his emphasis on youth programs served to ignite the passion and potential in young believers and discover their purposes in Christ Jesus.
Departure
On December 31, 2023, Pastor Paul Akindotun Adewumi passed on to be with the Lord. His departure occurred around 10:30 pm at the Apostolic Church Nigeria, Headquarters, Olorunda Ketu, Lagos State. His memory is survived by his children, grandchildren, and the numerous spiritual children he nurtured through his ministerial journey. His life and work remain inspiring, leaving behind an indelible imprint on the church and society at large. His burning heart for the will of God, his love for the things God loves and his spiritual discipline will long be remembered. Through his years of service, Pastor Adewumi personified the essence of faith, perseverance, wisdom and leadership, reflecting these core values in every aspect of his life.
